Children's Ministry Volunteer Training

We’re excited about our Children’s Ministry programs for the upcoming 2017-18 school year. We are so grateful to our faithful volunteers who share their time and talents to help support our families at Redeemer. In order to help prepare for this coming year, we will be offering 2 training sessions during middle hour in August:

  • August 13 – Specific training for SUNDAY SCHOOL teachers and assistants
  • August 20 – Address from Pastor Adam for ALL teachers, and specific training for SERMON TIME teachers and assistants

If you are interested in volunteering with our Children’s Ministry, we still have open spots available for both Sermon Time and Sunday School teachers and assistants. We strongly suggest that every family who has children in the program sign up for 3 months of Sermon Time teaching or assisting, or at least 2 sessions of Sunday School assisting. Note that we also need substitute teachers for both Sermon Time and Sunday School hours.

Contact Amanda Knox, amandak@redeemeroc.org, if you are interested in becoming a volunteer or have questions.

About Jason Polk

Rev. Jason Polk is one of Redeemer’s two Global Partners. He is an ordained PCA minister and oversees the spiritual care for Ethiopia ACT and its work to grow a gospel-centered church planting movement among the poor communities of Addis Ababa.

About Ethiopia ACT

Ethiopia ACT is an organization in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, that works to reconcile people to God through Jesus Christ, and to reconcile them to themselves, others and creation—all resulting in the planting, growing and maturing of churches that in turn transform lives and communities through faithful witnesses to the Gospel. They began as a ministry to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS on extremely poor families, but have grown to include other public health strategies that serve the wider community, as well as educational and psychological support for vulnerable children. Church planting and renewal is central to all their activities and a primary goal for their team.

We are excited to announce that both of our deacon candidates, Andrew Evans and Larry Wormald, were elected as Deacons of Redeemer at our congregational meeting on May 28th. Please plan to join us during middle hour on June 11th for the ordination and installation of our new Deacons. Andrew Evans

Andrew Evans currently lives in Anaheim with his wife, Kim, daughter Logan (2), and a new baby due to arrive in June. Andrew was born in Houston, TX, but has spent most of his life in Southern California between LA and Orange County. He currently runs a financial planning practice based in Irvine, CA.

Andrew was raised in a Christian home and was blessed to be surrounded by godly parents during his upbringing. As a young man, time at Biola University challenged Andrew to further understand and study the meaning of following Christ and what it means to be living in communion with Him. Redeemer has been an incredible blessing to his family and Andrew humbly looks forward to serving and loving the members of this community.

Larry Wormald

Larry Wormald lives in Irvine with his wife Binky and step daughter Kassandra. He has two grown sons, Ryan James and Christopher Steven. He was born in Pasadena and grew up in Laguna Beach. Larry spent twenty years in the Lake Arrowhead area working at a Christian retreat center and later moved to Orange County to work with Calvary Chapel facilities, serving as an HVAC tech and building maintenance.

He became a Christian when he was 18 years old. He started going to Redeemer around 2001. He has been actively involved in community groups, and was a community group leader in the South OC area. He is also a member of the sound team, working closely with elder Carl Messenger. Larry is looking forward to serving in the additional capacity of a deacon, to be able to help out the church and its members in a more personal way.

Daily Prayer

Easter2014-670x415-1.jpg

“The fullness of the resurrection requires more than a day to unpack. The Easter season is a fifty-day celebration that ends on Pentecost Sunday… The Easter season is a time to let the implications of the resurrection sink in deeper, inviting us to realign our worldview and conform our living to the reality that we have been raised with Christ to new life.” (From Seeking God’s Face by Philip Reinders).

One way to “let the implications of the resurrection sink in deeper” is to enter into a daily practice of praying and reading Scripture. To help assist you in this practice, we encourage you to sign up for Redeemer’s daily Morning and Evening Prayer emails. These emails include the Bible reading plan that is currently printed in the back our Order of Worship broken up into morning and evening readings, while also including several prayers and the liturgical drama taken from our previous Sunday morning worship services. There is also a section with suggestions for family devotions.

Setting aside time in your mornings and evenings where you can pause, rest, change gears, be reminded that God loves you, and meditate on God’s Word and pray it back to him may be hard at first (as with any practice), but over time is extremely formative and life giving.

The language in the prayers is corporate, letting you know that you are not praying or even reading the scripture passages alone, but are doing so together with your church community. The emails are created to encourage you to let your Sunday worship flow over into your daily practices. The beauty in how they are formatted is that they can be made more simple or complex as time allows.

Try starting this new habit to help deepen your joy in the resurrection. If you are interested in receiving these Morning and Evening Prayer emails

If you already have a regular daily habit of praying and reading scripture, that is wonderful and there is no pressure to change your practices. We are simply suggesting another tool for people to use.

Contact Kem Erskine, kem@redeemeroc.org, for assistance in signing up for the daily prayer email list.

Easter Helpers Needed

egg-hunt-post.jpg

Sunday, April 16, 8:20 am or 9:30 am

We are getting ready for our children’s Easter celebration on April 16th during the middle hour, from 10:00-11:00. We need helpers to hide the Easter eggs out on the lawn before the end of 1st service at 9:30 am. This should only take 15 minutes if we have enough hands. We will also need additional volunteers to help set up the craft and activity stations outside as well, prior to 1st service at 8:20 am.

If you are interested in helping with our Children’s Easter Celebration activities, contact our Children’s Ministry Director, Amanda Knox, amandak@redeemeroc.org.
