This year we will once again go to Serra Retreat Center, a beautiful sacred space nestled in the hills of Malibu. This Catholic retreat center, home to Franciscan friars, is a perfect place for reflection with stunning ocean views and, not to mention, great surf less than a mile away.
About the Speaker
We are privileged to have Rev. Chad Brewer, the RUF Pastor at UC Irvine, as our guest speaker for the weekend. Chad will be speaking on the topic of “The Hunger for Glory.” We were made for glory. Glory was ours in the beginning and then it was lost. As men we spend most of our lives in the pursuit of glory. This pursuit of glory drives us, it motivates us, and it can also crush us. This weekend we will talk about the glory that was lost, the glory that has been re-gained through the gospel, and what it means to live a truly glorious life now.
Here is a reminder of the glory that we pursue from the 1977 Oscar winner for best picture, “Rocky”: “Ah come on, Adrian, it’s true. I was nobody. But that don’t matter either, you know? ‘Cause I was thinkin’, it really don’t matter if I lose this fight. It really don’t matter if this guy opens my head, either. ‘Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody’s ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I’m still standin’, I’m gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren’t just another bum from the neighborhood.”
