Small Groups
Beyond Sundays, the most important way to get involved in the life of our congregation is to join a small group, where we cultivate our communion with God and friendships with others. Review the different formats of groups below and reach out to the contact individual to get connected.
BOOK STUDY GROUPS
Washed and Waiting Book Study
Book: Washed & Waiting by Wesley Hill Date/Time: Thursday Evenings in June (5, 12, 19, & 26), 7-8:30 PM Location: Church Office - 3700 Campus Drive Suite 200, NB Who: Adults. Leader: Pastor Josh Hahne Purpose: This small group will consist of assigned readings and discussion which will include an honest, raw, and confidential conversation about the intersection of sexuality and Christianity. Rev. Wes Hill will be our guide, but we expect that our conversation will go on frequent tangents and allow for personal processing.
CLICK HERE TO REGISTER and also email Pastor Hahne prior to attendance, and you will receive additional instruction about the nature of our conversation.
The Secular Creed Book Study and Dinner
Book: The Secular Creed: Engaging Five Contemporary Claims by Rebecca McLaughlin Date/Time: Mondays, weekly, June 16 - August 4, 6:30pm-8:30pm Location: The Erskine home in Tustin Hosts: Guy & Kem Erskine Contact: Kem Erskine
Description: Join us for dinner followed by discussion of this book by Rebecca McLaughlin which helps us disentangle the beliefs Christians gladly affirm from those they cannot embrace and invites us to talk with our neighbors about the things that matter most. Far from opposing love across difference, McLaughlin argues, Christianity is the original source and firmest foundation for true diversity, equality, and life-transforming love.
CLICK HERE TO REGISTER and also email Kem Erskine prior to attendance.
tILL WE HAVE FACES BOOK STUDY
Book: Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis Date/Time: Saturdays, June 28th - July 19th, Time: 10:00 - 11:30am Leader/Contact: Nathan Tudor Location: MoonGoat Coffee Shop UCI - 5171 California Ave, Suite 100 Irvine, CA 92617
Description: From the book cover... Lewis’s novel is a brilliant examination of envy, loss, betrayal, blame, grief, guilt, and conversion. Why must holy places be dark places? Lewis reminds us of our own fallibility and the role of a higher power in our lives. “Holy places are dark places. It is life and strength, not knowledge and words, that we get in them. Holy wisdom is not clear and thin like water, but thick and dark like blood.”
CLICK HERE TO REGISTER and also email Nathan Tudor prior to attendance.
Perelandra BOOK STUDY
Book: Perelandra by C.S. Lewis Date/Time: Saturdays, August 2nd - August 30th, Time: 10:00 - 11:30am Leader/Contact: Eyob and Nina Zewdie Location: MoonGoat Coffee Shop UCI - 5171 California Ave, Suite 100 Irvine, CA 92617
Description: Written during the dark hours immediately before and during World War II, C.S. Lewis’s Space Trilogy, of which Perelandra is the second volume, stands alongside such works as Albert Camus’s The Plague and George Orwell’s 1984 as a timeless classic, beloved by succeeding generations as much for the sheer wonder of its storytelling as for the significance of its moral concerns.
