Book Study Group
Format: A book discussion group that will read For the Glory of God by Rodney Stark. This is Amazon's blurb: Rodney Stark's provocative new book argues that, whether we like it or not, people acting for the glory of God have formed our modern culture. Continuing his project of identifying the widespread consequences of monotheism, Stark shows that the Christian conception of God resulted--almost inevitably and for the same reasons--in the Protestant Reformation, the rise of modern science, the European witch-hunts, and the Western abolition of slavery. In the process, he explains why Christian and Islamic images of God yielded such different cultural results, leading Christians but not Muslims to foster science, burn "witches," and denounce slavery. One benefit of this book is that it sets right (not for the first time) misconceptions about the church's supposed role in persecuting scientists such as Copernicus, and the supposes terrors it instituted during the inquisition. When: A mid-week evening based on availability

So on four specific Tween Prep Sundays we will invite the 4th and 5th graders to remain in the chapel when the other children are dismissed. They are welcome to sit with their families or together as a class. The first date is December 29, and the remaining dates are February 23, March 29 and May 24. Thank you and we look forward to worshiping together with you!

Discovering the 12 Days of Christmas

12 Days of Christmas.jpg

Sunday December 22nd, 11:15AM, following the service

Christmas isn’t just one day. It’s actually a 12 day celebration beginning at sunset on Christmas Eve! The song “The 12-Days of Christmas” is more than a list of nonsensical, silly and impractical gifts: it’s a tool to teach children (and adults!) the basics of historic Christianity.

Adults and children are invited to hear Pastor Adam Feichtmann give a presentation about the history of “The 12 Days of Christmas” and how we can continue the celebration of Jesus' coming after the 25th. Kids are encouraged to stay for the first 10 minutes of the presentation and to sing the song, then there will be a craft for them in the chapel hall.
