LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES SPOTLIGHT - School on Wheels

School on Wheels provides educational opportunities for children experiencing homelessness to shrink the gaps in their learning and provide them with the highest level of education possible.  Founded by a retired school teacher, who understood first hand the importance of education for all children and the unique challenges these students face.

The program first began in Skid Row in Los Angeles and has since expanded to all of Southern California. Over the last 27 years they have served more than 50,000 students. They partner with over 400 sites in Southern California including libraries, shelters and after school programs to provide 1:1 tutoring and digital learning programs.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Schools On Wheels, however during COVID-19 all volunteer activities have been suspended.  Currently their biggest need is school supplies for the upcoming school year.
