Juelfs Sabbatical 2015

2015 marks seven years of faithful service from pastor David Juelfs, and in accordance with our policy at Redeemer, the Session is marking this anniversary by sending David on a brief sabbatical over the summer. During this time of rest and renewal, the Juelfs family will be worshipping apart from Redeemer, but we invite you to join us in praying for their growth and refreshment.  See additional information below:

RUF at UCI in Fall 2015

RUF starts at UCI next fall! We are excited to announce that Rev. Chad Brewer will be moving to Orange County in July to start the first RUF at UCI. RUF is the college ministry of our denomination. Over the last year and a half Redeemer and the RUF committee of our presbytery (South Coast) have been searching for and interviewing candidates. Rev. Brewer is one of the most experienced RUF ministers in the country having served on three campus, two of which were startups like UCI, and all are thriving to this day.

One of the strengths of RUF is that it is closely connected to the local church, and not just one church, but a collection of churches in our region called a presbytery. While Redeemer will be Chad and his family’s home church, Chad will officially be an employee of the presbytery since RUF is a ministry of the presbytery. Three of Redeemer’s elders currently serve on the South Coast Presbytery’s RUF committee: David Juelfs, Drew Duncan, and Carl Messenger.

The Brewer family plans to move to Orange County in July. Please read the letter from Chad and join us in welcoming the Brewer’s. What a privilege it is for us to partner with Chad in this new chapter for Redeemer, RUF, and UCI.

Please read more about RUF and the efforts of Redeemer to love and serve UCI.

Ethiopia Trip

Are you interested in joining Pastor Adam Feichtmann and a handful of other church members to travel to Ethiopia in April to serve our new global partner, Ethiopia ACT and Jason Polk? The Ethiopia ACT (Aids Care & Treatment) project has been fighting the AIDS epidemic in Ethiopia since 2002. They provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care for individuals and families in Addis Ababa affected by HIV/AIDS, while also working hard to plant churches and network with local pastors.

Our team will be joining a group from Menlo Park Presbyterian Church to serve in the medical and spiritual care sides of the project. If you have a medical background or willing to come alongside a medical team and give spiritual care and engage with the local church plants, this trip could be great for you.

Dates: April 17 - 27

If you are interested or have questions, please contact Adam Feichtmann - adamf@redeemeroc.org.

Women's Spring Studies

Bible Studies

Judges: The Flawed and the Flawless February 23/26 - March 30

This six-study guide by Timothy Keller will show users how this dark, difficult period of history points us to the wonderful message of the gospel. Keller shows us the flawed heroes of Judges—and how they point us to the flawless hero, Jesus.

Zechariah: God’s Big Plan for Struggling Christians April 20/23 - June 1

In Zechariah’s day, Israel had returned from exile, but home was certainly not all they had hoped for. Zechariah’s task was to bring comforting words to the struggling people of God. These six Bible studies by Tim Chester open up Zechariah’s reassuring and revitalizing message for God’s discouraged people.

Epiphany Painting

For the love of beauty and art Redeemer purposely works very hard to have quality artwork printed on the front covers of our orders of worship. This Epiphany season is no exception. We are delighted to have Redeemer artist, Danielle Kimzey, paint a piece that captures a moment of piercing awareness that celebrates the revelation of Jesus as the light of the world. Epiphany is the season that highlights Jesus' ministry between his birth in the manager and his death on the cross, with special exploration of the magi's visit, Jesus' baptism, and his first miracle of turning water into wine. If you look at Danielle's piece, you will see both the star that the magi follow to find Jesus and a water pattern representing Jesus' baptism.

If you are interested in buying the original piece, please contact Adam Feichtmann, adamf@redeemeroc.org.  The painting is 1 foot x 1 foot and Danielle has listed it at $600.

You can follow Danielle's other work at www.daniellekimzey.com

Winter 2015 Community Groups

Starting January 11th our Community Groups will engage with Tim Keller’s Gospel in Life: Grace Changes Everything. This is an eight week study on the gospel and how it is lived out in all of life - first in our hearts, then in our communities, and then out into the world. Week 1 opens the course with the theme of the city: our home now, the world that is. Week 8 closes the course with the theme of the eternal city: our heavenly home, the world that is to come. In between we will look at how the gospel changes our hearts (weeks 2 and 3), changes our community (weeks 4 and 5), and changes how we live in the world (weeks 6 and 7).

Session Titles

1. City: The World That Is 2. Heart: Three Ways to Live 3. Idolatry: The Sin Beneath The Sin 4. Community: The Context for Change 5. Witness: An Alternate City 6. Work: Cultivating the Garden 7. Justice: A People For Others 8. Eternity: The World That Is To Come

Purchase your copy of the study guide at the book table this Sunday.

Over the summer and fall he went through a training and study period, then this past week was examined in the following areas in accord with the PCA's Book of Church Order chapter 24-1

b. His knowledge of Bible content,

c. His knowledge of the system of doctrine, government, discipline contained in the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church in America

d. The duties of the office to which he has been nominated, and

e. His willingness to give assent to the questions required for ordination.

Continuing to follow the PCA's Book of Church Order chapter 24-1, Redeemer's Session is giving at least thirty days notice to let you know that there will be a congregational meeting on Sunday January 25th, 2015, to vote to elect Cameron as a Ruling Elder. Lasting Church Home

While there is much we appreciate about renting temporary worship space at Temple Bat Yahm we will not be able to stay there forever. At some point Redeemer will need to move to a lasting church home. Because of the high cost to make that kind of move it is imperative that we continue to make substantial contributions to our facility fund. As you consider your end of the year giving let us commit as a church family to grow the fund for our future church home. This fall the facility team conducted a preliminary assessment of Redeemer’s capacity to invest in a lasting church home. What we found was very encouraging. We are so grateful for your generosity and passion for the mission. We received insightful feedback and will be working over the coming months to answer your questions and communicate to the church all we have learned in our research and planning. The facility team is currently putting plans together for a capital campaign in Winter 2016.

Our facility team continues to meet monthly to work through the many stages of this important project. We recently added Kem Erskine, Redeemer’s church administrator, to the team. The team now consists of the following:

  • Curt Pringle, Chairman
  • Jennifer Bridewell
  • Kem Erskine, Church Administrator
  • Adam Feichtmann, Assistant Pastor
  • David Juelfs, Pastor
  • Carl Messenger, Elder
  • John Nelson
  • Jeff Patterson, Treasurer
  • Jason Tester
